BookMy Beloved Talleyrand
Author:  Steve Pieczenik
Genre:  Historical Fiction
Pages:  255
Rating:  2.5/5 stars

This is a fictionalized re-telling of the story of Charles-Maurice Talleyrand de Perigord, Minister of Foreign Affairs in France under two kings and Napoleon, from the point of view of his last mistress.

This was my second go at this novel.  I love historical fiction and the intrigues of the French Revolution, but this novel leaves me cold.  I believe my main issue with it is that the author is noted for writing for the Tom Clancy Op-Center  series, and so his novel is full of political intrigue.  That is great.  However, it is written from the point of view of Talleyrand's last mistress, and there is a failed attempt at giving a romantic spin to it.  I wish he had just stuck to telling the story of Talleyrand.  It would have been a much better book.
